Get started with Agent Observability
Agent Observability is available on Grafana Cloud. To get started, enable Agent Observability on your Grafana Cloud stack, then instrument your agents to start sending data.
Review pricing, privacy, and protection
Before you enable Agent Observability or send data, review the requirements for your organization:
- Pricing for billing, current rates, and included usage.
- Data handling and privacy for capture controls, retention, residency, and judge inference.
- Security and access controls for authentication and permissions.
- Protect agents for guards and PII and secrets redaction.
Set up Grafana Cloud
Enable Agent Observability on your stack, then choose an instrumentation path below. Each path explains which credentials you need.
Refer to Set up Agent Observability in Grafana Cloud for setup steps.
Choose how to instrument your agents
Choose how to capture your model calls. Avoid exporting the same call through multiple paths:
- Agent Observability SDK: Use the SDK to choose a language and capture generations with a supported provider or framework integration. Refer to Set up Agent Observability in Grafana Cloud for SDK credentials.
- OpenTelemetry: Use your existing generative AI instrumentation without adding the Agent Observability SDK. Refer to Instrument agents with OpenTelemetry for connection settings and required attributes. OpenTelemetry ingestion is in public preview.
- Claude Platform: Send Claude Platform traces from Messages API requests without installing an SDK or changing your code.
- Set up Agent Observability in Grafana Cloud
Enable Agent Observability on your Grafana Cloud stack and start sending generation data. - Instrument agents with OpenTelemetry
Send generative AI spans with OpenTelemetry and inspect prompts and responses in Agent Observability. - Use the Agent Observability SDK
Choose a language to install the SDK and send your first agent data. - Set up and monitor coding agents
Forward coding-agent sessions to Agent Observability without writing SDK code. - Send Claude Platform traces
Export OpenTelemetry traces from the Claude Messages API to Agent Observability without installing an SDK.
Instrument coding agents
If you use a supported coding agent, you can forward its sessions into Agent Observability without adding any SDK to your code. Refer to Set up and monitor coding agents for the list of supported agents and install steps.
Inspect your first conversation
After data arrives, open Agent Observability from the Grafana Cloud left sidebar and select Conversations. Inspect a conversation before moving on to agent comparisons, dashboards, or evaluation.
Refer to Browse and debug conversations to inspect your first data.
Next steps
- Observe and troubleshoot to explore your data.
- Extend your instrumentation when you need framework integrations, graphs, or SDK settings.
