# Advantages of Prometheus remote write

Grafana Cloud offers several ways to get metrics in. Prometheus `remote_write` is the method built into Prometheus for sending samples from a server you already run. You add one block to the Prometheus configuration, and Prometheus pushes the samples it scrapes to Grafana Cloud Metrics. Watch video ->

Consider using Prometheus remote write if you:

- Already collect metrics with Prometheus and prefer to keep managing that deployment.
- Want to send only a subset of your metrics to Grafana Cloud, for example for a proof of concept or for the metrics of certain teams or projects.
- Want to keep the same metrics in both your Prometheus server and Grafana Cloud for redundancy.
